London-based law firm Olswang has awarded Ultima Business Solutions an outsourcing contract to manage its IT infrastructure. The deal requires 24/7 monitoring and support, in a deal worth £3m over three years.

Ultima is taking on 14 IT staff, who are being transferred from Olswang's current service provider CCE. The deal covers Olswang’s existing 600+ staff in London, South East England and Europe; and will be scaling up to support the firm's growth over the next 36 months. Olswang IT director Clive Knott said “Our lawyers are managing extremely complex deals that regularly reach completion in the middle of the night. While it’'s not cost-effective for us to have someone on-site to manage any unforeseen problems outside of office hours, we need to ensure support for the firm continues around the clock.

“In our dealings with Ultima it has been apparent that the company has a good name within the industry (BMW is one Ultima's flagship sites) and can be relied upon to listen and respond to our business needs. In addition, the transfer gives our staff training and support that they wouldn't otherwise have at Olswang, and provides them with potential career opportunities in the future.”

Ultima is a Microsoft Gold Partner holding four competencies which will also help Olswang achieve planned migrations to Vista, Sharepoint and Office 2007. “Ultima's expertise in handling Microsoft migrations was also a factor in our decision to change providers. It will be invaluable over the coming months,” said Knott.

Ultima CEO Max McNeill said “This is a significant long-term business win for Ultima and shows that medium sized organisations are looking to outsource more of their IT support. Ultima has seen significant growth in the legal sector since a dedicated team was set up two years ago. This win consolidates our position as one of the leading solution providers to this sector and we hope it will be just the start of providing more contracts of this nature in the future.”
